History

The Allingham Arms Hotel, which is named after local 19th-century poet William Allingham. The first of the Allingham family to live here was Florinda Allingham, who named the property Allingham Lodge in the 1840′s. Florinda Allingham lived here in Allingham Lodge and was a close relative of William Allingham, the Poet. Her father Edward Allingham lived at Magheracar but both Florinda and her father originally lived at a country house called Stonewold beside the Kathleen’s Falls Hydro Electric Station in Ballyshannon.
